Throwback Thursday: XL-mouth Bass

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

At New Wave Fishing Academy we believe that practicing catch and release as much as possible is an anglers duty to the sport! It is a group effort to ensure the health of our fisheries can be maintained for future generations to enjoy as much as we have. To promote practicing catch and release we are going to share some of our favourite stories of fish we have caught & released for someone else to catch one day and create memories like the ones we are sharing with you all. If you have a story you want to share please reach out to us and we will gladly share.

This weeks Throwback Thursday story comes from New Wave Fishing Academy content creation team member Collin and the time he caught multiple personal best largemouth in a single day. The thing with these fish is that their bodies weren't proportionate. Despite being a new personal best these fish had heads much bigger than their body which only means they can get much bigger once they fill out.

"Fall fishing. Thats where its at. Some days are just not good days to be a bass, and today was one of those days. Fishing a small lake with some dark waters from the jon boat a texas rigged pink senko was my weapon of choice. Casting laydowns I ended up with a backlash; but after untangling it and reeling in slack felt something heavy on the other end. Setting the hook and hauling the fish into the boat a 5 lb 2 oz pig, a new PB.

The day wasn't over yet though. Fishing around the shoreline some more the senko keeps catching - and they keep getting bigger. A 5 lb 6 oz followed by a 5 lb 10 oz bucket hit the boat. Despite the weight on these fish they have the heads of a real monster and I wouldn't be surprised if these fish weighed 8 lbs when filled out. All the fish were released after snapping a few pictures and swam away healthy and ready to keep on feeding for the winter ahead"
